Bairns' (Kids') Tour

Take a break from the ordinary, intensive sight-seeing excursions and join us for a day in Shetland that the whole family can enjoy. We'll meet Shetland Ponies and even some wallabies, visit one of the islands' most beautiful beaches and the largest woodland. We will have snacks to keep you going throughout the trip and will end with an ice-cream from a local café.

Duration: 4hrs

We leave Lerwick and cross the island of Trondra to reach Burra, where we visit The Outpost.

A little bit of Australia in Shetland, The Outpost is an animal sanctuary run by a Tasmanian ex-pat. Home to wallabies, goats, kunekune pigs and more. Bags of feed are available and donations are gratefully accepted (not included).

Working our way back to the Shetland Mainland, we pause at Meal Beach. One of the most popular beaches in Shetland...and for good reason. Beautiful, white sand gently slopes into the clear, turquoise water, so an ideal spot for families to enjoy the fresh air and have a snack.

Our next stop is at Carol's Ponies, where you have the chance to meet, learn about and photograph these wonderful animals. The breed originated in Shetland as packing ponies but due to their huge appeal, they can now be found all over the world - being especially popular as riding ponies for children and a companion for horses. Carol, the stud owner, will explain in detail about these beautiful animals. Please remember they have strong teeth and can nip so please do not feed the ponies!

Michaelswood is a 12 acre woodland in Aith with many picnic facilities and woodland walks. For children there is Captain Blackbeard's Pirate Ship and many other child-friendly activities to explore. Enjoy the Philosophers' Trail, or the lovely views from the top of the woodland, overlooking Aith and Aith's Voe.

Before returning to your ship or accommodation, we make one final stop at a local café for your choice of ice-cream (included)

A fun-filled day for all!
